Decca & Philips

Decca and Philips Store

Welcome to the Decca & Philips shop. One of the world's most celebrated record labels, the Decca Music Group has been home to the many of the greatest classical and operatic artists in history: Luciano Pavarotti (who spent his entire career at Decca), Sir Georg Solti, Joan Sutherland, Cecilia Bartoli, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Charles Dutoit, Sir Neville Marriner, Juan Diego Florez, and Valery Gergiev, to name but a few. Once known as The Opera Label (its landmark operatic recordings are still held in especially high regard), the Decca Music Group also leads the way in its orchestral and instrumental recordings, and is reaching out to new audiences through crossover superstars such as Andrea Bocelli, Hayley Westenra, Russell Watson, and via some of the biggest soundtracks of the stage and screen.

Genius, scandal and death: Cecilia Bartoli explores the world of Maria Malibran

Cecilia Bartoli revisits the early Romantic era of Rossini, Bellini and their contemporaries, and views the bel canto glory days through the eyes of romantic icon Maria Malibran, the most extraordinary opera star of her time. Maria (From £13.69) features an incredible variety of music including eight world premiere recordings, as well as popular favourites such as Bellini’s “Casta Diva” from Norma. A highlight is Mendelssohn’s lesser known “Infelice” for voice, violin solo and orchestra with Maxim Vengerov.

Florez - Arias for Rubini

On Juan Diego Florez’s latest disc, he pays tribute to an extraordinary predecessor who inspired some of his greatest stage roles and became the very first 'superstar tenor': Giovanni Battista Rubini (1794–1854). Many of the arias by Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti on Arias for Rubini (£13.69), the new recording, are unknown gems that Florez brings back into the modern spotlight.

2007 Gramophone Awards

Decca artists have triumphed in the major categories at the 2007 Classic FM Gramophone Awards--arguably the world's most influential classical music prizes--which were announced early in October at a star-studded ceremony at London's Dorchester Hotel. Winner of Record of the Year (and also winner of the Concerto category) was the Brahms Piano Concertos by Nelson Freire and Riccardo Chailly (£17.98). Rossini’s Mathilde di Shabran with Juan Diego Florez (£49.98), scooped the award in the Opera category and the winner of the orchestral category was Valery Gergiev’s recording of the Complete Prokofiev Symphonies (£40.98). Long associated with Decca, producer Christopher Raeburn picked up a Special Achievement award. His work can most recently be heard on Cecilia Bartoli's new album, Maria (From £13.69).
